A local bus collided with a camel on a rural road in southern Germany, but the animal survived the crash unharmed, police said on Sunday.

Three camels had escaped from a fenced pasture and ended up on the road in the town of Riedering, to the south-east of Munich, on Saturday morning, police said.

When the bus passed by at around 8 am, it hit one of the animals.

However, the camel did not sustain any injuries and was returned to its owners, a travelling fairground company.

The bus, on the other hand, was left with a shattered windshield and a damaged wing mirror, with damages estimated to amount to some €500 ($552).

The camels likely managed to escape from their enclosure because the electric fence had not been properly set up, according to police.
