Dortmund hit back late for point at Bayern, Stuttgart shine

Substitute Fabio Silva netted after 89 minutes to hand Borussia Dortmund a 2-2 draw at injury-hit Bayern Munich as the big rivals stayed locked on the same points at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday.
The action-packed encounter suggested more of a title race this season between the unbeaten duo after Bayern, at the summit only due to goal difference after eight games this term, dominated the league last season.
"We were well-organized," Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck, part of a rare four-man defence under Niko Kovač, told Sky. "I think we're still underestimated in Germany. This is the best Dortmund team of the last 10-15 years."
Konrad Laimer opened the scoring for the hosts before new Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane missed a penalty. The England striker's misplaced pass then led to a first Dortmund equalizer from Serhou Guirassy, but he made amends with a headed assist for Dayot Upamecano's goal on 66 minutes.
Portugal's Silva had the final say, with Bayern's protests about a foul in the build-up waved away.
Bayern assistant coach Aaron Danks has now overseen two wins and a draw in the league and cup in the absence of boss Vincent Kompany, who spent five days in hospital and is now recovering at home following illness.
The double winners lost Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry to injury in the first half, with board member for sport Max Eberl saying after the match that "both injuries look serious."
Dortmund's Jobe Bellingham had an opener ruled out for offside on 35 minutes, and Laimer netted almost immediately afterwards when he surged forward and tapped in after his first effort came back to him off keeper Gregor Kobel.
Bayern welcomed back Joshua Kimmich to midfield following a bereavement in his family while Kane wore golden boots to mark being voted the world's best male footballer, but he was less effective than usual - especially with his two mistakes just before the hour mark.
However, his clever header from Kimmich's raking ball left France defender Upamecano with an easy finish, only for Silva to equalize after Michael Olise became Bayern's latest injury worry.
Laimer said: "We conceded in the 90th minute which of course we shouldn't do. But chin up and let's keep going."
Leverkusen punished
Ermedin Demirović scored twice as VfB Stuttgart gave Bayer Leverkusen a Halloween haunting by recording a 4-2 away win.
Stuttgart surged up to 10th in the Bundesliga and now sit just four points behind sixth-placed Leverkusen.
Bosnia's Demirović said, "We know how hard we have to work and we haven't been rewarded of late."
Third-bottom Schalke are still without a home goal back in the German top-flight after losing 2-0 to RB Leipzig, Antonio Nusa's penalty and a Rômulo strike sending the Red Bulls up to fourth.
Germany comeback hopeful Niclas Füllkrug scored in an eighth game in a row in all competitions to inspire fifth-placed Werder Bremen to a 2-0 home victory over Hoffenheim.
Freiburg, in third, came back to win 2-1 at Augsburg thanks to Igor Matanović and Cyriaque Irié after Michael Gregoritsch had opened the scoring against his former team. Bottom side Borussia Mönchengladbach were held 0-0 at home by Paderborn.
