Elversberg moved up to fifth as a fairytale start to their debut Bundesliga season continued with a 4-1 home win over Mainz on Friday.
Both sides were knocked out of the German Cup second round on Tuesday by second-division opposition.
They were back at it on Friday to start the top-flight weekend and recent Germany call-up Felix Keidel quickly netted a free-kick.
Elversberg scored again on 26 minutes with their second shot on goal when Francis Onyeka held off Paul Nebel too easily and shot home.
It was 3-0 just before half-time after Maurice Krattenmacher guided in a composed finish following a corner.
Ransford Königsdörffer thought he had pulled one back for Mainz in the second half but was ruled offside after a video review. Cole Campbell acrobatically made it 4-0 in injury time before Benedict Hollerbach's consolation and a late second booking for Mainz's Stefan Posch.
Saarland-based Elversberg, from a town of 13,000 people, have 13 points from eight games including four wins. Mainz, in eighth place, have lost three in a row in all competitions.
Leaders Bayern Munich host Borussia Dortmund, on the same points as the champions, in the pick of Saturday's main programme of fixtures. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany will miss his third game as he recovers from illness.
