Bayern still without Neuer and Musiala for Cup clash at Magdeburg

Bayern Munich will still be without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Jamal Musiala for the German Cup second round match against Magdeburg on Wednesday.

"It's still a bit too early for Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala. The players had their treatment yesterday and we'll have to wait and see. We still need to speak to the doctors and then see who's available," assistant coach Aaron Danks said in a news conference on Tuesday.

Neuer has been dealing with persistent tendonitis in his foot, while Musiala is not fit yet following a torn muscle fibre injury.

Joshua Kimmich is also out, but expected to resume training this week after a family bereavement.

He added, however, that defender Minjae Kim and midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović are "certainly a bit closer to being fit."

Danks is deputizing for coach Vincent Kompany, who's in hospital since last Friday after collapsing during Bayern's reserve team training session.

"I popped in to see Vincent briefly yesterday, he's in good spirits. It looks as though things are improving day by day. There's no definitive prognosis. He's very calm and is being given plenty of time to recover," Danks said.

Bayern are in celebration mode after Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or on Monday evening and will try to bring the good momentum into the Cup match and also into the Bundesliga table-topper against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

"I can't say I was overly confident - he had to hold his own against top players. The margins were very tight. We work very closely with him and see the effort he puts in. I'm really delighted for him," Danks said.

"As an Englishman, I'm not entirely impartial here. But I see how hard he works every day. I'm delighted for him and also for the club, it shows what the club stands for. He'll now come back and carry on in his usual professional and humble way."
