Nine pro-Palestinian protesters glued themselves to the road outside a plant belonging to defence contractor Rheinmetall in Berlin on Tuesday to protest against German weapons deliveries to Israel.

Officers were called to the plant in Berlin's Wedding district at 5:30 am (0330 GMT) and have since been trying to remove the group, a police spokeswoman said.

Up to 90 officers were deployed to the site to deal with the overall 11 protesters, she said.

The Peacefully Against Genocide group claimed responsibility for the protest.

Further actions were held at other defence plants across Germany to protest against deliveries to the Israeli army, with a total of 70 people taking part, according to the group.

An investigation has been launched into allegations of coercion and the use of unconstitutional symbols, according to the police spokeswoman.

Rheinmetall, Germany's largest weapons manufacturer, began production at the Wedding site earlier this year. The plant has since repeatedly been targeted by protests, with participants including Swedish climate and social justice activist Greta Thunberg.

Peacefully Against Genocide has also held protests at the plant before.
