German tennis great Angelique Kerber will be honoured as a "Legend of Sport" at the Sports Press Ball in Frankfurt on November 7.

She joins a list of renowned athletes such as seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, football World Cup winners Franz Beckenbauer, Lothar Matthäus, Rudi Völler, and former tennis player Boris Becker, among others.

"I don’t feel that old yet. But this award means a great deal to me. It’s a great honour," the 38-year-old said.

"I always wanted to be seen as an athlete who gave her all and left her heart on the court. I think I’ve achieved that. I’ve achieved all my dreams. It couldn’t be better," she said in a news conference on Monday.

During her active career, Kerber won three Grand Slams and held the top spot in the women's ranking for 34 weeks.
