Marking the conclusion of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade is to be presented on Sunday to the French-British jurist and author Philippe Sands.

Sands is a professor of laws at University College London and works as a human rights lawyer at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

The German Publishers and Booksellers Association honours 65-year-old Sands as a committed humanist, "who, despite growing resistance, tirelessly fights for human rights, justice and mutual understanding," the Board of Trustees said in a statement.

The award comes with prize money of €25,000 ($28,000). The Association has been presenting the award since 1950.
