Niclas Füllkrug scored in stoppage-time against his former club Borussia Dortmund to snatch a point for Werder Bremen in a 2-2 Bundesliga draw on Friday.
Dortmund were leading 2-0 until the 88th minute thanks to two late goals, but were stunned in the end and dropped precious points.
They still top the league standings with 13 points, but Bayern Munich and Freiburg could be level by the end of the weekend if they win their respective matches against Augsburg on Saturday and Schalke on Sunday.
"I scored the goal for us, not against them," Füllkrug told broadcaster Sky. "Simply happy that we're leaving here with a point. In the end, we got a second wind, gave it our all, and became more courageous."
Dortmund had an excellent chance at the end of the first half, when Maximilian Beier was sent in behind the Bremen defence and hit the ball well, but goalkeeper Karl Hein made a big save in the 43rd minute.
Füllkrug was clean through on goal in the 54th and almost scored, but keeper Gregor Kobel stuck out his leg to stop the close-range effort.
Hein had a brilliant reaction to deny Ethan Nwaneri in the 61st, and even though he was beaten by the midfielder a minute later, the goal didn't count.
After a corner, Oliver Deman cleared the ball on the line, but just as far as Nwaneri, who completed a stunning bicycle kick into the goal. The play, however, had already been stopped due to a foul on Füllkrug.
But the hosts got their opener in the 80th minute. Fabio Silva's attempted shot didn't work as he planned, but the ball kindly fell to Daniel Svensson, who smashed it home from close range.
Nico Schlotterbeck added a second just five minutes later, heading in a corner into the net, which looked to have put the game to bed.
But Ludovit Reis pulled one back for Bremen in the 88th to add some drama to the closing minutes, and Füllkrug rose unmarked to head the equalizer past Kobel in stoppage-time.
"We had everything under control after the 2-0, but ultimately, we conceded two goals and will leave here with a draw," Schlotterbeck lamented.
