Germany women's national team captain Giulia Gwinn will be out of action "in the coming weeks" due to a torn lateral ligament in her left ankle, her Bayern Munich team said in a statement on Monday.
The defender was substituted in the closing minutes of Saturday's Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt after twisting her ankle.
"The diagnosis was confirmed by examinations carried out by the FC Bayern medical unit on Monday," the club said.
Gwinn had resumed playing with just a few weeks ago after a break of more than three months due to shoulder surgery.
On Sunday evening, the German Football Federation (DFB) already announced that Gwinn was ruled out of Germany's upcoming matches due to the injury.
Germany coach Christian Wück named VfL Wolfsburg's Sarai Linder as Gwinn's replacement.
The games against Australia on October 9 in Karlsruhe and against Japan on October 13 in Bremen mark the start of the season for Wück and the Germany team ahead of the World Cup in Brazil (June 24 to July 25).
