Klopp still wondering how to celebrate first win with Germany

2.10.2026, 12:43

Jürgen Klopp admitted he didn't know how to celebrate his first win as Germany coach after the national team defeated Serbia 2-0 in the Nations League on Thursday evening.

"No idea, I have no experience with that. I've never won a game as national team coach," he replied when asked about the national team's celebration traditions.

"Do we have beer on the bus?" he asked the press officer seated next to him on the news conference podium. In Liverpool, he used to enjoy having a beer after away games, Klopp said with a smile.

The match gave him plenty of reasons to enjoy the late-night drive home from Munich to the team's headquarters in Herzogenaurach, especially after he started his journey with Germany with a draw with the Netherlands and a defeat to Greece.

"Everything" was really good," Klopp gushed, as the sense of relief thanks to the first victory was palpable.

"I feel wonderful because I'm so happy and proud of what the guys pulled off," he said.

Klopp demands a lot from his players, and the performance against Serbia came close to his ideal.

"Today the guys were ready to go all out, you really have to say that," Klopp said.

"The aggressiveness went through the roof, that was exceptionally good. And that's what made it such a great game," he continued.

Even the team's need to improve the finishing had a positive effect. It kept them focused and playing at full throttle for 90 minutes. "That will remain incredibly important for us," he said.

Klopp will have a second chance to beat Greece on Sunday as the team travels to Thessaloniki for their second Nations League clash.

"We're heading home, trying to get some sleep, flying to Greece, and trying to play football. That's the plan," Klopp said.

The Greeks top Group A2 with seven points, two ahead of the Netherlands. Germany are third with four points.
