Löw: New Germany coach Klopp needs 'necessary time and space'

Former Germany coach Joachim Löw believes Jürgen Klopp can enjoy a successful spell with the national team but has urged patience from fans.

Former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss Klopp take charges of his first Germany match later on Thursday in the Nations League in the Netherlands.

"It is crucial now to give him the necessary time and space to implement his ideas," he told the Münchner Merkur/tz newspaper.

Löw, who led Germany to 2014 World Cup glory, said the team could prosper again despite three flops in a row since.

"I don't think much of basically talking down German football right now or saying we are further away from the world elite than ever before. We still have very good players, strong clubs, good coaches and great opportunities in youth development," Löw added.

"Jürgen stands for energy, intensity and a strong bond between the team and the fans. But even for him, not everything will work from one day to the next. After a disappointing World Cup, it takes trust, patience and a team that once again plays for Germany with great conviction."
