Klopp welcomes first group of German team with Adeyemi instead of Karl

Germany coach Jürgen Klopp has made a change to his two-part squad as the national team started its preparation for the upcoming Nations League matches.

Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi will replace Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl in the 24-man squad for the first two matches against the Netherlands on Thursday and against Greece on Sunday. 

Karl will then join the group who will face Serbia on October 1 and Greece once more on October 4.

The reason for the swap is workload management, according to the German Football Federation (DFB). 

Klopp was appointed in succession of Julian Nagelsmann and he is to rebuild a team that went out in the round of 32 at the World Cup in summer.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool coach has selected 44 players, including 16 uncapped and 16 from the World Cup squad, and divided them in two groups.

Some players, however, will stay for the full duration and not be part of a swap after the second game.
