Schick on target again as Leverkusen beat Leipzig, first Paderborn win

Patrik Schick kept up his 100% scoring record in the Bundesliga season when he sent Bayer Leverkusen on course to a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig on Sunday.

Leipzig had a brighter start and Christopher Nkunku netted in the 34th minute, but the goal was nullified because Romulo was marginally offside in the build-up. 

Instead it was Leverkusen who took the lead shortly before half-time when Schick slid in to volley home a cross from the left by Miguel Gutiérrez. 

The Czech has scored in all of their four league games and also in then German Cup. His only season game without a goal was in Thursday's 2-0 Europa League success against Celje. 

The final score was the same on Sunday when Miguel netted himself after a clearance from Ridle Baku fell at his feet in the 58th minute for the now dominant hosts.

Leverkusen climbed into fifth place with seven points from their last three unbeaten games following an opening defeat at Elversberg. Leipzig have six points but are yet to earn a point away from home.

"I could have scored two or three more. But if you score consistently it helps," Schick told streaming portal DAZN. He added on the game as a whole: "Our last game in Augsburg (2-2) was not ideal, but we are improving step by step." 

Leipzig defender David Raum said: "We didn't award ourselves in the first half and concede a stupid goal. It wasn't good enough in the second half and we were punished enough. Maybe we have to learn to fight back more."

First goals and win for Paderborn

Promoted Paderborn got their first goals and victory of the season when they held off Hoffenheim 2-1.

Santiago Castaneda ended Paderborn's goal drought with a deflected shot in the 29th minute and Stefano Marino tapped the second in the 42nd. Adam Daghim pulled one back five minutes after the restart but Steffen Tigges' header in the 69th assured the hosts of the three points.

No goals at Schalke v Elversberg

Schalke played to a 0-0 draw at home against Elversberg in a duel of the other two promoted teams, like they had also done two weeks ago against champions Bayern Munich. 

Forward Edin Džeko could not help them break the deadlock in his first start of the season, with Elversberg captain Lukas Pinckert blocking a dangerous attempt from the Bosnian veteran. Schalke's Junior Dina Ebimbe had a huge chance to win it in stoppage time but completely misfired.

"Every point is important so we will take it. If you can't win you must at least not loose," Džeko said.

Borussia Dortmund top the table into a three-week international break with a maximum 12 points, two ahead of Bayern and Freiburg.
