Gladbach part ways with coach Eugen Polanski

Borussia Mönchengladbach have parted ways with coach Eugen Polanski, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Sunday.

"Despite a good pre-season and some encouraging signs, the team haven't been able to get the results we were looking for in the Bundesliga," head of sports Rouven Schröder said. 

"Our recent performances ultimately led us to the conclusion that a change was needed, and we have therefore relieved Eugen of his duties with immediate effect."

Assistant coach Jan-Moritz Lichte will be in charge of the team until a new head coach is appointed.

Gladbach are bottom of the Bundesliga table with no points from three games. On Saturday, they were thrashed 5-0 by Freiburg. 

Their only win so far this season was against fifth-division side TSV Schott Mainz in the first round of the German Cup.

Polanski took the job in September 2025, replacing Gerardo Seoane. Last season, he only managed to lead the team to 12th in the Bundesliga.

"Borussia Mönchengladbach has always been my club and always will be. That's why it hurts so much that things have ended this way. After staying up last season, we made a number of changes going into this campaign. We had big plans, but we weren't able to make them work. I'm sorry about that," Polanski said.
