Dortmund and Freiburg keep up 100% records in Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund made it three wins from three in the Bundesliga this season thanks to Fabio Silva's early goal and Felix Nmecha's double - including a stunning bicycle kick - in a 3-0 home victory over promoted Paderborn on Saturday.

"I think that was the best goal of my career," said Nmecha, who will hope to be in Jürgen Klopp's first Germany squad on Thursday. "It felt really good. The moment I hit the ball, I knew it was going in."

Freiburg, leaders on goal difference, hammered ten-man bottom side Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-0 in the Black Forest to seal a club record sixth victory out of six games across all competitions this term. Gladbach have no points as pressure builds on coach Eugen Polanski.

Augsburg missed out on matching Freiburg and Dortmund with maximum points after Bayer Leverkusen substitute Patrik Schick grabbed a late 2-2 away draw. Michael Gregoritsch netted twice to become the home side's record scorer as Leverkusen added a draw to a loss and a win so far this term.

Adam Hložek's brace gave Hoffenheim their first win with a 2-1 home success over VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt also notched their opening three points of the campaign with a 3-1 win at neighbours Mainz.

Jonathan Burkardt scored Frankfurt's second at his former club after Noah Atubolu saved his sixth Bundesliga penalty in a row to deny the hosts and boost his hopes of being in Klopp's squad. 

Cologne and Werder Bremen drew 1-1 in the late game in the cathedral city as Bremen's Mitchell Weiser made his comeback after 14 months out with injury.

New boys Schalke won 3-1 on Friday at lowly Union Berlin. 

On Sunday, champions Bayern Munich go to Bundesliga debutants Elversberg, who have won both their first two games, while strugglers RB Leipzig and SV Hamburg meet in Eastern Germany.

Sublime acrobatics

Dortmund lost the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup to Bayern at the start of the campaign but have a perfect record since in all competitions, winning five games.

Portuguese forward Silva recently moaned to reporters about his lack of starts and coach Niko Kovač made clear he was in-form Serhou Guirassy's back-up.

But a series of good performances as a substitute forced Kovač to play the 24-year-old from the start on the wing. He quickly rewarded his coach with the 5th-minute opener as he rounded the keeper following Guirassy's assist.

Guirassy had the ball in the net from Silva's pass soon after, but he was offside on video review, just as he was later in the first half when the Guinea striker thought he had scored again.

It took the introduction of substitute Nmecha to settle matters against a generally shot-shy Paderborn. The Germany midfielder netted on 80 and 89 minutes, the latter with a sublime piece of acrobatics.

Dortmund, who had Ethan Nwaneri and Joey Veerman making first league starts, have had to deal with injuries and illness to start the season.

Giannis Konstantelias tore his knee ligaments on his league debut and fellow new Greek Konstantinos Karetsas had circulation problems in the 3-2 Champions League win over Villarreal in midweek.

But there was good news for the Black and Yellows on Saturday as officials said Karetsas could be fit for next weekend and centre back Nico Schlotterbeck made his first appearance of the season after hurting his ankle at the World Cup for Germany. 

"I have missed it massively. It was a bad injury. I'm so happy to be back," Schlotterbeck told Sky as he waits to see if Klopp also calls him up.
