Bayern coach Kompany won't underestimate underdogs Elversberg

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany won't underestimate Sunday's opponents Elversberg, who are making their Bundesliga debut this season and have been the surprise package so far.

The underdogs are even two points ahead of the German giants in the standings, with two wins in as many games, while Bayern thrashed VfB Stuttgart in their league opener but were held to a goalless draw by Schalke last weekend.

"We take every game seriously. Every season brings new challenges. That's something I love about football," Kompany said in a press conference on Saturday.

"We always want to show what FC Bayern is about, wherever we go. It's a new location for us but we still want to be the same FC Bayern."

Elversberg are the smallest Bundesliga club in history and not even a town in its own right as it is part of the Spiesen-Elversberg community with a population of 13,000.

The town doesn't have a train station and the infrastructure around the stadium - which still resembles a construction site - is problematic. The term "village club" has probably never been more fitting.

But that is not an issue for Bayern: "You fly for an hour first, then go on a bus for an hour and then you play football - there's nothing more to it than that. Whether it's in Dortmund or Elversberg, the motivation is just the same," Kompany said.

The coach said that winger Serge Gnabry might be able to play and a decision will be made after the final training session.

"I reckon he'll be involved tomorrow or against Union Berlin (next weekend), but we still need to have conversations with Serge. He needs to give us the signal that he doesn't feel that something will happen when he shoots or turns. That aside, everyone's fit and available," Kompany said.
