German Finance Minister Klingbeil tears ACL in bike accident

German Finance Minister Lars Kingbeil has torn his ACL in a bike accident, he revealed on Wednesday.

Klingbeil, who also serves as deputy chancellor, posted a photo of himself outside parliament wearing a leg brace on Instagram, captioned: "Unfortunately I have to tell you: That's it for my football career."

A spokesman said Klingbeil fell while riding his bike in a forest and hitting a stone.

The accident is the latest blow to Klingbeil, who appears to be haunted by a string of bad luck recently.

During a trip to the US last week for the G20 finance ministers' meeting, he was forced to stay an additional night due to technical difficulties with his government plane.

Meanwhile, his Social Democrats (SPD), who have been struggling with abysmal approval ratings for months, were dealt another blow on Sunday, when they won a meek 9% in crucial regional elections in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt.
