Deceased Dahlmeier to be inducted into Germany's Sports Hall of Fame

Laura Dahlmeier, the former biathlon champion who died while mountaineering in 2025, is to be inducted into the German Sports Hall of Fame.

Her former room-mate and biathlete Maren Hammerschmidt announced the induction in a video from the organizers.

"She was simply Laura, down-to-earth and approachable. That is what defined her for me. When I think of Laura, I think above all of a person who always stayed true to herself," Hammerschmidt said.

The seven-time world champion was killed in an accident on Laila Peak in Pakistan on July 28, 2025. Dahlmeier and her climbing partner abandoned their attempt to reach the summit in difficult weather conditions.

But during the descent, the twice Olympic champion was hit on the head by a rock at an altitude of 5,700 metres. Dahlmeier died at the age of 31.

In addition to Dahlmeier, gymnast Fabian Hambüchen, swimmer Britta Steffen and Felix Neureuther (alpine skiing) are also to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony is planned for November 26 in Frankfurt.
