Goretzka won't be available for Klopp's first Germany squad

Germany coach Jürgen Klopp won't have midfielder Leon Goretzka available for his Nations League squad.

Goretzka, who moved from Bayern Munich to Aston Villa this summer, said on Instagram on Monday that he will need to take break after his body "has reacted to the increased workload after my time away from the pitch."

"I'll use the coming days, including the international break, to recover fully and I'll be back ready to fight and give everything for you and for Villa."

Goretzka signed with Aston Villa after Bayern didn't offer him a new contract. He left the German club after eight trophy-laden years, including the Champions League in 2020.

Klopp will name his first Germany on September 17 for Nations League matches against the Netherlands, Greece and Serbia.

The former Liverpool coach took the job at the national team after Julian Nagelsmann stepped down from the position following a disappointing campaign at this year's World Cup.

Goretzka was part of the team who was eliminated by Paraguay in the round of 32.
