Kane says he had positive initial talks with Bayern over new contract

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane said he had good initial talks with the club about a contract extension, but the England captain stressed that a concrete agreement will still take a while.

"That won't happen in a week or two. There will still be a lot of discussion about the details," Kane said after the 5-1 win on Friday in the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart.

"The conversations have been positive. So far, so good. In the next weeks we will continue the talks."

His current contract expires at the end of the season, and he's aiming for a long-term extension. According to reports, besides salary adjustments, the new deal is to run to 2029 or 2030. 

"I'm 33. It might not be my last contract, but it's a big one that I have to decide on," Kane said. "The important thing is that I'm happy with it. And the club wants to be happy, too."

The striker joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023 for a club-record transfer fee of around €100 million ($115.8 million). 

"Both Harry and his family, as well as we, have always tried to convey that we're taking a relaxed approach to things." Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said. 

"The chemistry is just right. That's why we're really relaxed with each other when it comes to this topic."

Dreesen was also asked about key winger Michael Olise after recent rumours that he could leave the club.

"Michael has a contract until 2029, there's no reason to rush things," he said.
