German Ansah rejects ban over alleged doping test refusal

European 200-metre champion Owen Ansah has rejected a four-year ban proposed by Germany's National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and requested a hearing before the German Sports Arbitration Court, NADA said on Friday.

"NADA Germany is unable to comment on further details of the proceedings, in particular regarding the timeline. The organisation of the proceedings is the responsibility of the Arbitration Court," the anti-doping agency said.

"However, it is important to NADA Germany that the proceedings before the German Court of Arbitration for Sport are conducted promptly and effectively."

Earlier in August, NADA recommended a four-year suspension for Ansah over a possible anti-doping violation, accusing the sprinter of refusing to provide a sample for a doping test.

In a statement to the German Athletics Association (DLV), Ansah said he was about to travel to the Diamond League meeting in Monaco on July 9 when the drug tester arrived outside the testing time frame he had given. He said he was running late and couldn't provide a sample at such short notice, having also just been to the toilet.

He added that he was tested by the World Anti-Doping Agency the next day, a competition day on July 10 in Monaco, and again on Monday by NADA.

Ansah had been given 20 days to either accept NADA's findings or request that a hearing be initiated at the German Sports Arbitration Court.
