Klopp to announce his first Germany squad on September 17

New coach Jürgen Klopp is to announce his first Germany squad on September 17.

He's expected to mark a fresh start and make personnel changes following a disappointing World Cup participation and the departure of coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Germany were eliminated in the round of 32 after a defeat on penalties to Paraguay.

The players will be called up for the Nations League matches against the Netherlands on September 24 and against Greece three days later.

During his official presentation as Germany coach, Klopp said he had a list of 57 field players that could make it to the squad.

Another big question mark is who will be Germany's starting goalkeeper. Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann played during the World Cup qualifiers, but he was demoted after Manuel Neuer came out of retirement for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Neuer has again decided to leave the national team, but it's unclear whether Baumann will be Klopp's first choice.

Marc-André ter Stegen was supposed to be Neuer's successor after the latter's first retirement in 2024. But he was plagued by injuries and also lost his position as number one at Barcelona. Ter Stegen is currently on loan at Ajax.
