Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich believes that team-mate Jamal Musiala could have an impact beyond football by overcoming and dealing with an illness he recently made public.

"Jamal can be a great role model for so many people out there, showing that you can still deliver top performances and compete at the highest level. And I think that's what he'll try to show us all," Kimmich told broadcaster Sky after Bayern's 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup on Saturday.

After collapsing twice during two recent pre-season friendly matches, Musiala revealed that he was suffering from "brief, temporary - but treatable - absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction" and that he was "optimistic."

According to Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl, Musiala "changed something" in his medication and that's why the episodes became visible. He wasn't included in the squad for the Super Cup match.

The club and the players have been aware of Musiala's condition for a while.

"We, of course, hope that Jamal comes back soon because he's essential for the club, for us as a team and for Germany. We all know what he's capable of," Kimmich said.
