Eintracht Frankfurt scored 10 goals in the first half to kick off the new season with an 11-0 thrashing of fifth-division side SC St Tönis in the first round of the German Cup on Friday.
In the late game, last season's runners-up VfB Stuttgart didn't face much trouble in a 4-0 win over third-division side Hansa Rostock, with newcomer Dzenan Pejcinovic scoring a hat-trick.
Elsewhere, Karlsruhe beat Preussen Münster 2-1 and Kaiserslautern scored in the final minute of extra-time to claim a 1-0 victory over Waldhof Mannheim.
Ten goals in one half: A record
The goal festival secured Frankfurt the record for largest half-time lead in a Cup match. The previous milestone belonged to Bayern Munich, who scored nine goals in the first half of their clash against DJK Waldberg in 1997.
Jonathan Burkardt was the first on target in the fourth minute and team-mates Robin Koch and Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab followed suit before Burkardt doubled his tally to make it 4-0 before the half-hour mark.
Can Uzun, who had provided two assists, added one to his name in the 34th and completed his brace just two minutes later.
Burkardt took advantage of the opponents' weakness to complete a hat-trick in the 41st, Elias Baum added his name to the scoresheet in the 44th and Younes Ebnoutalib and Mario Götze made it a perfect 10 before the break.
The 11th goal of the match, but the sole one in the second half, was scored by Fares Chaibi in the 87th, who sealed the largest Cup win in Frankfurt's history.
"The win was thoroughly deserved - as was the margin. I'm pleased we've reached the next round in such comfortable fashion," Frankfurt coach Adi Hütter said.
"Regardless of the result, I want to compliment SC St. Tönis on a very courageous performance. They wanted to compete right from the off."
Newcomer Pejcinovic shines for Stuttgart
Summer signing Dzenan Pejcinovic made a great impression in his first official match for Stuttgart.
He broke the deadlock against Rostock in the 18th minute after Tiago Tomas intercepted a sloppy ball exchange from the opponents.
The newcomer added a second in the 37th and thanks to another mistake from Rostock. This time, it was Deniz Undav who collected the ball after a careless pass from the defence and served Pejcinovic.
Tiago Tomas scored a third in the 74th before Pejcinovic completed his hat-trick and the win in the 82nd.
The first round of Cup continues over the weekend with Wehen Wiesbaden v Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Trier v RB Leipzig, among other matches.
Title holders Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund had their respective matches against VfL Osnabrück and HEBC Hamburg postponed to September as both will contest the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup on Saturday.
