Suspected Islamic State fighters held in Germany

Police in eastern Germany have arrested two suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization, officials confirmed on Friday.

The apartments were also searched of the two Iraqi nationals, in the city of Dresden and the small town of Königstein - both in the state of Saxony - the office for countering extremism at the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office said.

The two suspects, aged 33 and 27, are accused of belonging to a foreign terrorist organization. They are alleged to have fought in various IS units from February 2016 to May 2017, and from April 2016 to February 2017, respectively. They were reportedly paid monthly for their service.

Mobile phones, a laptop and identification documents were seized during the searches.

The men were brought before the investigating judge at the Dresden Higher Regional Court, who issued the arrest warrants.
