Poll: Confidence in all German political parties at all-time low

Most people in Germany feel let down by all political parties, according to the latest opinion poll published on Wednesday.

The RTL/ntv Trend Barometer found that only 12% of German citizens now feel that the political parties "are addressing the real problems and interests of the people in the country to a sufficient extent." A considerable majority - 84% - disagreed with this statement.

The mood is similar in both the east and west: A large majority of 86% and 84% respectively accuse the parties of failing to champion people's needs.

According to the figures, 31% of people living in western Germany see the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the party that cares least about people's problems, while in the east the figure is significantly lower, at 19%.

However, with 28%, the AfD remains the strongest party and maintains a seven-point lead over the conservative bloc led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz. 

Merz's personal support continues to fall, now standing at a new low of 13%, one percentage point lower than the previous week. 

Even among conservative voters, 54% are dissatisfied with him, while among their coalition partner, the Social Democrats (SPD), the figure stands at 83%.

The Greens hold on to third place in the Trend Barometer poll with 16%. The SPD and The Left party each stand at 12%, with The Left losing one percentage point compared with the previous week.

The data for the RTL/ntv Trend Barometer was collected by Forsa on behalf of RTL Deutschland between August 4 and 10.
