German overnight stays decline in June

German hotels and other commercial accommodation recorded 48.9 million overnight stays in June, down 2.9% on the year, following a strong start to the year, the Federal Statistical Office reported on Tuesday.

Stays by domestic guests came in at 41.2 million, representing a fall of 3.6%, while overnight stays by foreign guests rose by 1.6% to 7.7 million. The figures cover establishments with at least 10 beds.

The sector remains on track for a record, as the 223.8 million overnight stays recorded during the first six months was up 0.3% on the year. Foreign overnight stays increased by 0.5%, while the figure for domestic guests was up by 0.3%.
