Shots fired in Berlin amid rise in gun crime in German capital

Berlin police were on Sunday investigating two incidents involving gunshots, following a recent rise in shooting incidents in the German capital.

In the most recent incident at around dawn on Sunday, shots were fired at a hairdressing salon in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district in north-eastern Berlin, a police spokeswoman said. A gunshot hole was also found at a nearby nightclub. No one was injured, according to the spokeswoman.

On Friday evening, a 22-year-old man was injured in a shooting incident in Kreuzberg to the immediate south of the city centre.

He was treated in hospital but is not in danger. His assailant escaped. Homicide squad police are investigating links to shots fired in the area previously.

Last year, Berlin police set up the Ferrum specialist unit to investigate gun crime.
