Audi won't upgrade its F1 power unit again until 2027

Audi won't upgrade their Formula One power unit any further this year for budget reasons, with the next one to come in the 2027 season.

"It'll ne next year," racing director Allan McNish told autosport.com. “Everybody has got this trade-off between when you're bringing upgrades – chassis and PU – and also where you spend your money.

“Because you can't spend everything at one time, because then you don't have anything to fight with later. So it's got to be a managed expectation, and not just over one season, but multiple seasons as well."

But McNish said that Audi would continue to have upgrades in other areas of the car this season which is in its traditional summer break and continues on August 23 in the Netherlands.

Audi took over Sauber as it entered F1 as a new works team this year. They upgraded the power unit in June after a slow start and are now eighth from 11 teams in the constructors' standings, having scored points in the last three races and 12 in all.

Gabriel Bortoleto has earned 10 of them and Nico Hülkenberg two.
