1.08.2026, 14:47

Borussia Dortmund won the second match of their pre-season tour in Japan 1-0 at Tokyo FC on Saturday but lost Carney Chukwuemeka on a suspected knee injury.

Fábio Silva netted the winner in the 54th minute of a match at National Stadium that was interrupted for almost half an hour in the first half due to heavy rain.

Austrian World Cup squad member Chukwuemeka limped off during the first half with an apparent knee problem. There was no immediate diagnosis.

Dortmund had lost the first match of the tour 1-0 against Cerezo Osaka in mid-week, fielding what effectively was a youth team. On Saturday they had a stronger outfit including German World Cup players Maximilian Beier and Waldemar Anton.

Dortmund now return home from their fourth trip to Japan, which was mainly for marketing purposes, to prepare for the season they start in three weeks with the German Super Cup match against Bundesliga and German Cup champions Bayern Munich.

Their first league match is a week later on August 29 against SV Hamburg.
