Roger Schmidt succeeds Klopp as Red Bull Head of Global Soccer

Coach Roger Schmidt has been appointed Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull in succession of Jürgen Klopp, who was appointed German national team coach a week ago.

The Austrian soft drinks makers Red Bull said that Schmidt has signed a long-term contract and will start on October 1.

Schmidt knows Red Bull from his time as RB Salzburg coach 2012-2014. He has also been in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, Beijing Guoan, PSV Eindhoven und Benfica. His last position was that of Global Sports Director of the J-League in Japan.

As Head of Global Soccer, Roger Schmidt will be responsible for the strategic direction and long-term development of Red Bull's global football portfolio together with Head of Global Soccer Commercial, Florian Schulz.

Red Bull's clubs also include RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil.
