German top two divisions record attendance record of 21.4 million

Germany's Bundesliga and second division sold a record 21,404,258 tickets in the past season for an average of 34,974, the league said on Thursday.

The Bundesliga said that top flight ticket sales rose by 9.1%, largely due to the return of SV Hamburg and Cologne, who have bigger stadiums and a bigger fan base than relegated Bochum and Kiel.

The top flight sold 12,718,097 tickets for an average of 41,562. That is higher than the 38,082 average from the previous season 2024-25 but below the record 44,293 average from 2011-12.

The average stadium occupancy rate in the Bundesliga reached 96.1%, surpassing the previous season’s 95.9%.

Four Bundesliga clubs achieved 100% stadium occupancy: Union Berlin, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and St Pauli. Overall, 16 of the 18 top flight clubs recorded stadium occupancy rates of more than 90%, the league said.

Borussia Dortmund attracted the highest average attendance in the Bundesliga with almost 80,000 spectators per match, ahead Bayern (around 75,000) and Hamburg (around 56,900). Schalke, who are now back in the Bundesliga, led the second tier with more than 61,000 spectators per match.

Season tickets dominated the sales with 55.45% in the Bundesliga and 57.1% in the second division.

The Bundesliga said that the average ticket price in the top flight was €30.77, up from €28.78 in 2024-25. Standing tickets averaged €12.27 and a seat €37.14.
