Diomande back in Leipzig amid ongoing Real Madrid speculation

Yan Diomande underwent diagnostics at his start of pre-season activities at RB Leipzig on Monday amid ongoing speculation over a move to Real Madrid.

Sources told dpa that a move to Real for more than €100 million ($114 million) has not been finalised as suggested in reports, and that many details remained open.

Ivorian teenager Diomande came to Leipzig a year ago for €20 million from Spain's Leganes. He impressed with 12 goals and nine assists and also caught the eye playing for Ivory Coast at the recent World Cup.

Leipzig have reportedly turned down €100 million offers for the 19-year-old winger from Real and Liverpool but that talks with the Spanish top side are said to be ongoing.

Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain said on Sunday they are no longer after Diomande because "the transfer fee demanded and the salary demands were completely out of proportion."

Leipzig originally wanted Diomande to stay at least one more season but now appear willing to let him go for at least €120 million.

That would make Diomande the most expensive African player, topping the €80 million Arsenal paid Lille for Ivorian Nicolas Pépé in 2019.

It would also be a club record fee for Leipzig, who previously sold Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City for €90 million in 2023 and Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United for €76 million last year.
