'I saw fear:' Berlin Pride presenter shares shock after fatal attack

The presenter of the Berlin Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride event has expressed her shock after the fatal attack in the German capital.

Ricarda Hofmann, a well-known podcaster, was presenting the main stage outside the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday as part of the city's Pride celebrations. 

"Right now, I honestly don't have the words," Hofmann wrote on Instagram on Sunday, hours after a car hit a crowd near the Tiergarten park, killing one woman and injuring 16 people. "What happened today has changed something in me."

"I was at CSD today," Hofmann continued in her post. "Not just as a presenter, but as part of a community that comes together to be visible. To celebrate love. To stand up for one another."

"I saw fear," the presenter wrote. "I felt how something that should be a place of joy can turn into a place of uncertainty within seconds."

"My heart feels heavy since yesterday," she added, sharing her thoughts with the victims and all those affected.

Berlin police are searching for a 21-year-old suspect in connection with the attack. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner are among those to have condemned the incident.
