Manfred Manglitz, the first goalkeeper to score a Bundesliga goal, has died at the age of 86, his former club MSV Duisburg have announced.

Citing his family, Duisburg said that Manglitz died on Monday after a short and serious illness.

"One of the all-time greats in the history of MSV Duisburg has passed away," the club said.

Manglitz won four West Germany caps and was part of the 1970 World Cup squad. He played 257 Bundesliga matches for Duisburg and Cologne between 1963 and 1971 and featured in three German Cup finals.

He is best remembered for converting a penalty for Duisburg in a 3-1 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach in June 1967 which made him the first keeper to score in the Bundesliga era which started in 1963.

He was involved in a Bundesliga match fixing affair in the early 1970s, banned for life but later allowed to play again which he did in lower divisions.
