A concrete support beam has broken in a stand at Werder Bremen's Weserstadion.

The Bundesliga club said on Wednesday that the incident occurred during modernization works at the stadium.

As part of refurbishment work in a section of the VIP area in which window panes were to be removed, a load-bearing column was unintentionally damaged. This led to a partial collapse of the stand.

According to the club statement, no one was injured. There is no risk of collapse for the other parts of the stand.

"We are currently analysing the situation and the damage that has occurred and hope that we can restore the stand as quickly as possible," said Hans-Jörg Otto, managing director of Bremer Weserstadion GmbH.

A friendly match between Bremen and French top-flight side Auxerre is planned at the Weserstadion on August 15.

In the first round of the German Cup on August 22, Bremen regional cup holders SV Hemelingen want to stage their first-round tie against Hanover at the Weserstadion.

Bremen's first competitive home game of the new season is due on September 5 against RB Leipzig.
