Germany forward Jamal Musiala has undergone another operation after his return from the World Cup, his club Bayern Munich said on Monday.

The Bundesliga champions said that Musiala underwent "minor, routine surgery" which was "part of the standard medical protocol following his serious injury last summer and had long been scheduled for the period after the tournament in North America.

"Thanks to the procedure, the attacker will be able to complete pre-season according to a clearly structured plan, ensuring he'll be back in time for the first of FC Bayern’s competitive fixtures," Bayern said.

No details were given, while the Bild paper said that the operation took place last week and that a metal plate was removed from his left foot.

Musiala broke his leg and suffered a severe ankle injury 12 months ago at the Club World Cup in the United States. He returned in January but has had several setbacks.

He scored one goal at the World Cup where Germany suffered another disappointment in the form of a last 32 exit against Paraguay.

Bayern start pre-season training on July 20, the day after the World Cup final. Their first match is the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on August 22. They kick off the Bundesliga six days later against VfB Stuttgart.
