Germany have started training for their last World Cup tune-up match against the United States amid speculation that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could be fit for Saturday's match.
The German Football Federation (DFB) posted a video from a closed training session on Wednesday in Chicago in which Neuer was engaged in goalkeeper-specific exercises and the video said that he was "continuing to build up the intensity."
Neuer, 40, has been recalled into the national team for the World Cup two years after originally retiring from the team and declared first choice.
The 2014 World Cup winner has however been sidelined with a calf muscle injury lately and it remains unclear whether he will make his Germany comeback on Saturday or in their World Cup opener on June 14 against Curaçao.
Forward Kai Havertz also confirmed that Neuer was present in training but added "I don't know whether he took part in everything. But he was certainly on the pitch."
Havertz joined the German squad in Chicago on Tuesday after playing in the Champions League final on Saturday which his club Arsenal lost against Paris Saint-Germain.
Havertz is expected to play on Saturday at Soldier Field as the preferred forward of coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The match could also see another indication whether teenager Lennart Karl or Leroy Sané will play on the right and Nathaniel Brown or David Raum as left back. Karl and Brown have done well in recent weeks and also in Sunday's 4-0 victory against Finland.
But regardless who gets the nod in the end for the tournament, Havertz has stressed that everyone in the squad is needed.
“We have to work together as a team. And in that, everyone needs everyone else. Some will play more, others less. But everyone has to be there when they’re needed," Havertz said.
