A German official is to become the new head of the EU mission to support the civilian security sector in Ukraine.

Cornelia Taylor will take up the post on July 1, the Permanent Representation of the EU Member States in Brussels announced on Friday.

Taylor, who is a lawyer, has more than 20 years’ experience in leading complex crisis operations, and has previously held senior positions in UN and EU missions in Kosovo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Afghanistan.

Most recently, she was deputy head of the OSCE mission in Kosovo.

The EU mission EUAM Ukraine was established in 2014 to support the country with reforms and now employs more than 400 international and local staff.

It is currently assisting the Ukrainian authorities with the prosecution of crimes related to Russia’s invasion, border management, combating hybrid threats and the reintegration of war veterans.

EUAM Ukraine has field offices in Kiev, Lviv and Odessa, as well as a mobile unit. Field offices in Kharkiv and Mariupol are currently unable to operate due to the security situation and Russian occupation respectively.
