Riera to remain Frankfurt coach for last game but future open
9.05.2026, 14:57
Eintracht Frankfurt coach Albert Riera will retain his job for the final Bundesliga game of the season against VfB Stuttgart, sporting director Markus Krösche said after Friday's 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Krösche, however, refused to say whether Riera will stay at the club beyond this season. The coach has been under pressure for weeks.
"We lost the game today, and that's obviously extremely frustrating. Now the important thing is for all of us to come together and win the next game against Stuttgart," Krösche said.
The defeat to Dortmund was the third in a run of four winless matches and Frankfurt are in danger of missing out on European competition.
"My players will give everything until my last day here, more than 100%, I can promise that," Riera told broadcaster Sky after the match.
"It takes time, three months is actually too short," explained the coach, who took the job in early February.
Asked about his future during a news conference, Riera said: "That's not my decision to make, but the club's."
With one game left, Frankfurt are eighth in the Bundesliga, one point away from the Conference League spot.
