Sister Irmgard, a 92-year-old nun from western Germany, has gone viral with her first-ever taste of the country's favourite fast food dish, the döner kebab.

During a stop-off in an industrial zone in Mülheim-Kärlich, the Dominican sisters from the Arenberg Monastery in Koblenz went for a kebab and posted their enjoyment in a video clip on Instagram.

A younger nun asked Irmgard for impressions of her first Turkish-style sandwich. "I'm really enjoying it," came the response.

Sister Irmgard then said she had eaten her first döner at the age of 82, to be reminded by the other nuns that she was in fact 10 years older - all recorded on the clip.

The monastery reported in a separate video how the nuns had undertaken a pilgrimage to the city of Trier to the south-west and decided to stop for something to eat in the evening, driving into the industrial area as parking was easier to find there.

"That's how we eight sisters happened on a döner outlet in the Mülheim-Kärlich industrial zone," one reported. The "Firat Kebap Haus" offered them a warm welcome and tasty food, she said.

"Sister Irmingard at 92 and Sister Hildegunde at 89 have enjoyed the first döner in their lives," she said.

The Instagram video was viewed millions of times in the space of a single night.
