German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said he had spoken with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, urging Tehran to uphold the ceasefire and engage in constructive negotiations.

"I urged Iran to respect the ceasefire, engage in constructive talks and ensure free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz," Wadephul wrote on X on Thursday.

The United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week truce, backed by Israel, but it remains under strain due to heavy Israeli strikes against the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Disputes have also emerged over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.
