Mainz coach Urs Fischer didn't confirm whether midfielder Nadiem Amiri will be available for the first leg of the Conference League quarter-finals tie against Strasbourg on Thursday.

Amiri has recently been sidelined due to a heel injury.

"If Nadiem is on the bench tomorrow evening, it means he is ready to play. That much I can say," Fischer said in a news conference on Wednesday.

Mainz have become the first German team to ever reach the quarter-finals of the Conference League, but now they are aiming to go even further.

They are playing in the knock-out stages in Europe for the first time in club history and on Thursday they host the first leg of their quarter-finals tie against Strasbourg.

"It's another two-leg tie. We want to start well, ideally by winning the first game," Fischer said

He is hoping to have the support of the fans to help them achieve another milestone.

"Our fans have been outstanding right from the very beginning. They played a huge part in getting us to the quarter-finals," he said.
