The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) is currently level with Chancellor Friedrich Merz's conservative CDU/CSU alliance on 26% support among the electorate, according to a new survey by pollsters Insa.
The poll, commissioned by the mass-circulation Bild tabloid and taken between Monday and Friday, found that support for the AfD had risen by one percentage point.
The Social Democrats (SPD), Merz's centre-left coalition partner, have lost one point to 14%, their lowest level since mid-January.
The Greens are on 12%, and the hard left Die Linke on 11%. Other parties would fail to make the 5% threshold to enter parliament.
The main parties have all refused to work with the AfD at federal and state level.
In the February 2025 elections, Merz's alliance, comprising the Christian Democrats (CDU) and their Bavarian sister-party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), secured 28.5%, ahead of the AfD on 20.8% and the SPD on 16.4%.
