Midfielder Reitz to join Leipzig from Gladbach

Midfielder Rocco Reitz is moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in July.

"Rocco Reitz was absolutely the player we wanted for our central midfield," Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer said in a statement on Monday. "We are very pleased to get this transfer over the line, our long-term efforts have paid off."

Sources close to the deal told dpa the initial transfer sum for the 23-year-old German was just below €20 million ($23 million).

The Gladbach captain, a former Germany under-21 star, had a deal at Borussia Park until 2028 but will now be contracted to Leipzig until 2031.

Reitz is set to replace Leipzig's Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager, who has indicated he will not sign a new deal in eastern Germany.
