Former Germany women's national team captain Alexandra Popp will leave Wolfsburg after 14 years in summer.

The Bundesliga club said on X that Popp, 34, would not renew her contract. The 2016 Olympic champion won two Champions Leagues, seven Bundesliga titles and 11 German Cups since arriving in 2012.

"A special chapter comes to an end this summer," Wolfsburg said. "Thank you for 14 unforgettable years, Alex."

Her future is unclear but there is speculation that she could join Wolfsburg sporting director Ralf Kellermann on a summer move to Borussia Dortmund. Popp was born near Dortmund and a lifelong fan of the club.

Dortmund's women play in the third division but want to reach the Bundesliga in the near future. Dortmund's stadium is also an important venue for the women's Euro 2029 tournament in Germany.
