Almost 2,000 German tourists are still stranded in The Gulf due to the war in Iran, the German Travel Association (DRV) said on Tuesday.

Almost 2,000 German tourists are still stranded in The Gulf due to the war in Iran, the German Travel Association (DRV) said on Tuesday.

All German holidaymakers are expected to be able to leave by Wednesday, the DRV added. Most of the remaining tourists are in the United Arab Emirates.

"The main focus of tour operators remains on the situation in the affected regions and on doing everything possible to bring guests back home," the association said.

Up to 30,000 holidaymakers travelling with German tour operators were affected by a wave of flight cancellations following the outbreak of the war on February 28.

The German government has organized evacuation flights from Oman's capital Muscat, while commercial flights have been able to resume from airports in the UAE despite the ongoing fighting.

The DRV described the process of getting German holidaymakers home as an "extremely complex task."
