German President Steinmeier to attend Olympic opening ceremony

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will attend next week's opening ceremony of the Milan/Cortina Winter Olympics and the first two days of competition.
The presidential office said on Wednesday that Steinmeier will travel to Italy on February 6, with the main opening ceremony in Milan's San Siro stadium scheduled for the evening.
Steinmeier is to visit the Olympic Village and the women's ice hockey match between Germany and Japan the next day.
On Sunday, February 8, the women's downhill ski race in Cortina d'Ampezzo and biathlon mixed relay in Anterselva are on Steinmeier's agenda before a return to Berlin in the evening.
