Kompany not worried about line-up after latest defensive blow

Dayot Upamecano became the latest addition to Bayern Munich's list of defensive players who won't be available for the Bundesliga match against Augsburg on Saturday.

"He's ill. Unfortunately he's out," coach Vincent Komapany said in a news conference on Friday.

Kompany, however, is not worried about how he will build his starting line-up.

"Josip Stanisic, Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey and now Upa are all defenders we don't have. Nevertheless, we have good competition for places: Hiroki Ito is fit, Minjae Kim is fit, Raphaël Guerreiro and Tom Bischof. Joschua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka can also play there for us," he said.

"But I never really worry about the starting team because I've always been reassured by the reliability of the team."

Kompany admitted, however, he would "get scared" in case a virus made its way to the locker room.

"I hope nobody will be sidelined. But Upa will be in bed for a few more days - and hopefully nobody else," he said.

Kompany was asked about the recent discrepancy in Bayern's performances in the first and second halves.

"If you turn it around a bit, you could say that it's a problem for the other teams, because they've always been weaker in the second half," he said.

In the mid-week Champions League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise, Bayern once more struggled in the first half before building a 2-0 win after the break.

"I prefer things to not go that well in the first half and then go well in the second. The other way round would be a big problem!" Kompany said.
