Kompany: Cologne game still 'too early' for Kimmich and Musiala

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said that midfielders Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich still won't be available for the Bundesliga match against Cologne on Wednesday.

"Everything is going well with Jamal, he can do almost everything and is putting in a lot of extra work. That's a good sign – and he'll be back soon," Kompany said in a news conference.

"But for this one it's still too early for Kimmich, who hasn't trained with the squad yet, and Jamal," he added.

The coach also had some bad news on Monday after defender Josip Stanisic was ruled out for the time being due to an ankle injury.

"Stanisic won't be back in January, and we'll have to see when he can start again in February. But even then, he may be out for a few more weeks, depending on his recovery," Kompany said.

Winger Serge Gnabry and defender Alphonso Davies are doubtful as both are ill and missed the home game against VfL Wolfsburg last weekend.

"He (Gnabry) needs to stop coughing, then he'll play again," Kompany said.

Bayern resumed the season after the winter break with a 8-1 thrashing of Wolfsburg. They top the standings 11 points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

"What the lads showed on Sunday is not normal, we mustn't forget that. But the motivation is there, we want to see how far we can take this form. We know it's not easy in Cologne," Kompany said.

Despite the large gap between Bayern and Dortmund, sporting director Christoph Freund stressed: "We have to focus on ourselves. We're in good shape, playing good football and enjoying a really good season. But we also know that this is just the foundation – we haven't won the title yet."
